Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe

Race to Rescue

BIO

Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe is a family physician, health communicator and advocate who helps people navigate healthcare with confidence. With over 20 years of clinical experience and as the resident health expert on CTV’s The Social, she translates complex topics — like menopause, equity and patient self-advocacy — into clear, actionable insights.

She is Medical Director of Primary Care Outreach at Women’s College Hospital, a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, a columnist for The Globe and Mail and co-host of The Doc Talk Podcast. Known for blending evidence with empathy, she leaves her patients and audiences feeling informed, validated and empowered in their health journeys.

“Food is not just fuel. It is a fundamental part of health, dignity and stability. As a family doctor, I see the impact of food insecurity every day. Patients come in exhausted, managing chronic conditions that are harder to control or making impossible choices between rent, medication and groceries. I also see what happens when that burden is lifted. When people have reliable access to food, their health shifts. There is more energy, more stability, more capacity to engage in their own care. It changes everything.”
